The Whistle Song(2020)
The Whistle Song is made during the 2019–20 Wuhan coronavirus outbreak. Because of the virus, everything in my country is at pause. All the citizens have no choice but to stay at home to protect themselves from the virus. I’m no exception.
From 8th Feb to 12th Feb 2020, I collected 37 free-style whistling videos from my WeChat (Chinese social media) friends which only recorded the participants’ mouths and edited this piece.
This is a piece relates to Li Wenliang (12 October 1986 – 7 February 2020), a Chinese ophthalmologist at Wuhan Central Hospital who warned about COVID-19 on 30 December 2019 on WeChat to fellow colleagues. On 3 January 2020, Wuhan police summoned and admonished him for "making false comments on the Internet". Li returned to work, later contracting the virus from an infected patient and dying from the disease on 7 February 2020. After his death, the public media changed its tone and memorized him as the whistleblower in this plague.
