Sounds Like Woyzeck (2017)

Inspired by Buchner’s Woyzeck, Sounds Like Woyzeck intends to interrogate the discourse of hegemony and ideology in a contemporary Chinese context. Starting from Buchner’s original script, this piece draws an archival trajectory of the historical position of the protagonist: Who is Woyzeck? A real soldier who killed his lover? A stranger in the news? A role in an influential script? A prototype in literature history?

By investigating the multiple layers underneath this figure, an invisible voice of cultural hegemony gradually emerge. What are we talking about when we talk about Woyzeck today?
